FrequentlyAsked Questions

How deep does a RÜTaround system need to go/How do I install a RÜTaround?

For the tomato cage, peony ring and individual stake the top hole needs to be just below ground
level which is achieved by ensuring the lowest ring is sitting on the soil. The trellis needs to be
installed so that the bottom rung, the drip line is resting flush on, or slightly below, ground.

Does a RÜTaround system tell me how much water I need to use?

Nope. These systems are delivery methods to help with growing, water conservation, weed
growth, soil compaction etc. You can help any type of plant (veggies, annuals, perennials, trees
and shrubs) with a RÜTaround system. The plant type, and growing conditions will dictate the
water needed.

Does a RÜTaround system saturate the soil around the root ball?

Absolutely. Due to the placement of the holes and the method in which soil draws water, the
area around the root ball of the plant will be thoroughly irrigated.

How do I remove a RÜTaround in the fall so I can reuse it?

Very carefully using the heavy duty tube lift the RÜTaround system out the ground. Try to keep it as straight as possible and do not apply pressure to the smaller/thinner rings. Clean it, dry it and place it in a dry location for use in the spring. If possible store it vertically and in a location such as a garage or shed, so excess water can runout.

If you have used the Trellis on a perennial vine you may need to leave it in. Despite our best intentions things can go awry and the cage/trellis/ring/stake can be damaged regardless of how careful you are.

Can I use any fertilizer with RÜTaround systems?

You can use any brand of fertilizer, but the medium needs to be water soluble. RUTaround systems are not set up to work with slow release granular and are not very effective with fertilizer spikes such as these mediums are not recommended to be used.

How much fertilizer should I use?

When it comes to fertilizer use the manufacturers recommendations. The RÜTaround system is a delivery system, not a measuring system. We recommend mixing the appropriate amount of fertilizer and water in a watering can and then watering as needed through the RÜTaround funnel.

Does the orientation of the RÜTaround matter?

While it does not matter to the plant it can make our life easier. Always have the tube facing “front” or the direction it will be the least hassle to water. As the plants grow you still need access to the funnel, this is easier if the funnel is forward facing.
